Holywell is known in Britain thanks to St. Winifred (a monk of the seventh century) and to the Well from which come the sick to seek the intercession of the Saint.

The Sisters of St. Bridget of Sweden accepted the invitation (in 2008) to go to Holywell to keep open the secular Catholic structure, called “St Wenefride’s Hospice, Holywell” (“the hospice for pilgrims of Winifride”).

In fact, while up to 2002 the Sisters of Charity of St. Paul had had the care of the Hospice, built about 100 years ago to house the poor pilgrims of Liverpool, with the arrival of the Brigidine Sisters in that particular place, where there was already a tradition of hospitality, the House has been able to continue to be a retreat house and hospitality place to pilgrims visiting the famous well, but at the same time the pilgrims have the opportunity to get to know the spirituality of St. Bridget and Blessed Mother Elizabeth Hesselblad.

The Sisters of St. Bridget of Sweden cordially welcome all. The guest house of St. Winefride’s is open all year round. The Brigidine Sisters with their charisma of Ecumenism play a monastic and apostolic prayer life and make their service of hospitality for pilgrims who visit the Shrine of St. Winefride, and those who want to spend a holiday, weekend, study, organize conferences, retreats, etc.. The convent chapel is adjacent to the guest house and is open to all those who want to spend some time in prayer.

There are single, twin, double, family rooms and are equipped for people with disabilities. Equipped with bath or shower, central heating, TV and telephone. There is a lift for people with disabilities, a conference room, a parking lot. Full board, half board or bed and breakfast. Meals are available by prior arrangement for non-residential groups
